EGYPTIAN police recently arrested a couple living in hiding since their conversion from Islam to Christianity, and detained 20 others — after torturing several for the names of more converts, according to information received from the U.S. Copts Association.
The string of arrests began with the apprehension of Yousef and Mariam Suliman by police in Alexandria on October 20. The Christian couple, along with their two daughters, Sarah and Marina, had adopted new identities since their conversion to Christianity. After their arrest, the couple was transferred to Cairo; the children were allowed to stay with friends.

Today 25 days after the end of the above Symposium the Egyptian Government Media as well as the Yellow-Media of Egypt criticized bitterly the conference resolutions saying this is a suspect conference serving the Zionist objectives and inviting foreign powers to intervene in Egypt. From the above it is clear that the Egyptian state does not intend to address the agonies and humiliations of the Copts and clearly intends to keep the Symposiums resolution in the same old desk where they imprisoned Dr. Oteifi’s report since 1972, therefore the steering committee together with the three sponsoring organizations decided to reopen the Symposium for a permanent emergency session to take the necessary measures needed to handle our eight point resolutions in a fair and honest way.
