house-church near Bandung was attacked by a mob but police stepped in.The report of the attack was to be found in the Jakarta Post newspaper which began the story:
The suppression of religious freedom in this predominantly Muslim nation continues in West Java, where dozens of churches and places of worship have been forcibly closed by Muslim extremists over the past year.
The house-church was located in Cibintinu kampung, Arjasari village, about twenty kilometres south of Bandung, and the attack on it was led by such groups as the Anti-Apostasy Division (DAP) of the Islamic Ulema Forum (FUUI) led by Suryana Nur Fatwama. About fifty men gathered together at a nearby mosque and thence headed towards the church at around 9.00am on Saturday 23rd September.

Reuters- Cairo, Egypt has banned editions of two French and German newspapers, because of articles deemed insulting to Islam.
Under a decree issued by information minister Anas- El Faki , the two editions will not be able to ebter the country,it said.
“They published articles which disparaged Islam and claimed that Islamic religion was spread bythe sword and that the prophet… was prophet of evil,”it added.

A hitherto unknown group calling itself the Swords of Islamic Right on Saturday threatened to blow up all churches and Christian institutions in the Gaza Strip to protest remarks made by Pope Benedict XVI about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.

It is a moving experience for me to be back again in the university and to be able once again to give a lecture at this podium. I think back to those years when, after a pleasant period at the Freisinger Hochschule, I began teaching at the University of Bonn. That was in 1959, in the days of the old university made up of ordinary professors. The various chairs had neither assistants nor secretaries, but in recompense there was much direct contact with students and in particular among the professors themselves. We would meet before and after lessons in the rooms of the teaching staff.
