A brave survivor of the tragic Orlando shooting massacre has told how the gunman Omar Mateen laughed as he gunned down the 49 victims at Pulse nightclub.
In a harrowing account of Sunday morning’s events, Norman Casiano said he even had to crawl away “military style” from the shooter.
The 26-year-old was even forced to climb over the bodies of his dead friends as he made his desperate escape.
He initially heard two gunshots when he knew he had to act – fleeing towards the bathroom.
Mr Casiano said: “I started crying and at that point a gentleman stumbles into the bathroom, collapses in front of the stall door and he’s bleeding everywhere and he’s begging to come inside the stall.
“However the victim would not fit under the door, and Mateen came into the room and killed him.”
He said: “The scary part was that he didn’t say anything, and what’s scarier than that when he shot the boy that was already shot, he laughed.
“And as he’s laughing as he fires through the whole front of the stall.”It has now been claimed that Mateen visited the LGBT nightclub on several occasions and also used a gay dating app.
A regular Pulse club-goer said the gunman had been messaging him on and off for a year on gay dating app Jack’d.
Kevin West told the Orlando Sentinel that he recognised Omar Mateen when he saw him outside the club around an hour before the shooting took place.
“He walked directly past me. I said, ‘Hey,’ and he turned and said, ‘Hey,’” West explained.
“I could tell by the eyes.”
As well as West, another four club-goers have also said they recognised Mateen after seeing him in the club on previous occasions.
While Mateen is reported to have pledged allegiance to Islamic State – and ISIS have also claimed responsibility for the attack – authorities have said that there is no evidence to link the terrorist organisation with the attack.
